Shampoo

  • A shampoo usually contains mostly water. It also contains cleaning substances, i.e. Surfactants and stabilizers. Surfactants are washing-active substances (WAS) which, due to their molecular structure, have dirt-releasing properties and thereby clean the hair. They also ensure that a shampoo retains its consistency. The other ingredients of shampoos, e.g. Foaming agents, stabilizers, thickeners and preservatives facilitate their application and improve the shelf life. For the production all ingredients are warm or cold, i.e. mixed with each other at room temperature. The pH value and liquid are then set. Then the shampoo is filled.

Seife

  • When making a soap, fats are mixed with a lye, e.g. Sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, mixed together. This procedure is called soap boiling, the process of mixing fats and bases is called saponification. During this process, the fats are broken down into glycerine and the alkali salts of the fatty acids (the actual soaps). The consistency of the soap essentially depends on two factors: the use of sodium or potassium hydroxide and the chain length of the fatty acids. Using caustic soda results in firm soaps and using caustic potash results in soft, greasy soaps. Long-chain fatty acids also give the soaps a firmer consistency. Anionic surfactants are created during production.
  • While surfactants are only created during soap production, they are added directly as a raw material during the production of shampoo. So much for the theory. Can you wash your hair with soap now? Yes, it is possible, but the outcome depends on many influencing factors. To name just the most important:
    • Texture of hair and scalp, hair structure
    • the soap used
    • the water hardness
    • acidic rinse at the end

Saure Spülung / saure Rinse

  • Not all hair can handle the use of hair soap, and not every soap will suit every hair type. It probably works best to try out whether and which soap you can use as a shampoo. In principle, however, for example with oily hair, a soap with less excessive grease should be chosen and you should give yourself a certain period of time to get used to it. Another factor is the nature of the tap water, which is used to wash and rinse the hair. The water differs depending on the region and contains different concentrations of calcium and magnesium ions. They make this water "hard" and react with the polar ends of the soap. This can result in hair looking dull and dull after shampooing.
  • This is one of the reasons why an acidic conditioner is recommended to finish washing your hair with soap. It makes the hair shinier, smoother and more manageable and causes the flaky structure of the hair, softened by washing with alkaline soap, to close again. The hair becomes shiny. For an acidic rinse, mix a tablespoon of vinegar or citric acid with one liter of water and rinse your hair after you have completely rinsed off the foam and soap residue.
  • So if you decide to wash your hair with soap and get on well with it, you can use several advantages: Less plastic waste in the bathroom, fewer utensils, more tidiness in the bathroom and of course less mess when traveling, as you don't have to carry liquids in your (hand) luggage .

Empfehlung
